Introduction
Ithaca Software LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the CocoDrilo mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the App, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
By using CocoDrilo, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Information We Collect
CocoDrilo does not require a CocoDrilo account and does not ask you to provide your name, email address, or phone number to use the App. The following categories of information may be processed:
- Learning progress data: Your vocabulary and grammar progress, lesson completion, review history, and performance statistics are stored in your private iCloud container via Apple's CloudKit. This data lives in your personal iCloud account, is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and is not accessible to us or to any other user.
- Device diagnostics: We collect basic, anonymized diagnostic information (such as device type, operating system version, app version, and crash logs) to diagnose issues and fix bugs. This information is not linked to your identity.
- App activity and advertising attribution data: The App uses Meta App Events to measure how advertising contributes to installs, subscriptions, and a small set of product milestones. The predefined events include app installation and launch, onboarding completion, paywall presentation, lesson completion, and completion of a daily review. Event parameters are limited to stable lesson or paywall identifiers, whether a unit was completed, and a coarse band for the number of items reviewed. Meta's software may also process device and app information needed to deliver, secure, measure, and attribute these events.
- Subscription transaction data: When you start a trial or purchase a subscription through Apple's StoreKit, Meta's automatic in-app purchase measurement may receive limited transaction information such as the product identifier, price, currency, and trial or subscription status. Apple processes the purchase and payment information. We and Meta do not receive your payment-card details from CocoDrilo.
CocoDrilo does not send Meta your answers, vocabulary, imported or learner-created content, free-form text, learning performance, email address, name, phone number, or precise location. We also do not send Meta a CocoDrilo user ID because the App has no user accounts. If you contact us for support, we receive the information you voluntarily include in your message.
Advertising Identifier and Tracking Permission
CocoDrilo does not request permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework and does not access Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA). Advertiser-ID collection is disabled in the Meta SDK, and limited event-data usage is enabled. The App uses Apple's privacy-preserving advertising attribution technologies, including SKAdNetwork or AdAttributionKit, where available. These technologies provide aggregated, delayed, or coarse attribution rather than user-level attribution.
Meta may process App Events and related device or account information it already holds in accordance with Meta's Privacy Policy. We do not use the Meta SDK for Facebook Login, social sharing, advanced matching, or user-level retargeting.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Save and sync your learning progress across your Apple devices;
- Provide and verify subscriptions and trial access;
- Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and maintain the App;
- Understand the performance of a limited product funnel; and
- Measure advertising results, including aggregated install-to-subscription attribution.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is disclosed only as described in this policy:
- Apple: Your learning data is stored in your private iCloud container, and Apple processes App Store subscriptions and payments. Apple's handling of this information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Meta Platforms: The limited App Events, subscription information, and related technical data described above are sent to Meta for analytics and advertising measurement. Meta processes that information under Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security.
Data Storage and Security
Your learning data is stored in the private database of your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. Because it lives in your private container, only you can access it through devices signed in to your Apple ID — we have no ability to read, export, or modify it. Apple encrypts CloudKit data in transit and at rest.
App Events and subscription measurement data sent to Meta are retained and protected by Meta according to its policies. Although we take reasonable steps to limit the data CocoDrilo sends, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children's Privacy
CocoDrilo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict the processing of your data
- Request portability of your data
To exercise rights regarding information controlled by Ithaca Software LLC, please contact us at the email address below. Information stored in your private iCloud container is controlled through your Apple account. Requests concerning information controlled by Apple or Meta may need to be directed to the applicable company.
Data Deletion
CocoDrilo does not currently offer an in-app option to delete your learning data. Because your data lives in your private iCloud container, we have no ability to delete it on your behalf — only you can. You can remove your CocoDrilo data at any time by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > CocoDrilo on your device and choosing to delete the data. Requests concerning data retained by Meta can be made using the tools and contact methods described in Meta's Privacy Policy.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
